This December marked the 3 year anniversary of the

DC Cooperative Stakeholders Group.

Throughout this time and in solidarity with the group, CrowdWork.Coop has continued to invest into its digital outreach and infrastructure service needs, those also shared by its mission-aligned partners and supporters.

Now, Social Conscience PBC is partnering up with CrowdWork.Coop to
help co-op businesses and projects in the DC area gain access to capital.

– To bring more co-ops online and connected to each other and the resources they need to scale.
– To continue facilitating opportunities for building valuable connections across all sectors, demographics, and geographic boundaries.
– To bring greater awareness to the decades of cooperative organizing in DC and surrounding area and of local co-ops in operation today.

Capital is historically hard for nascent co-ops to attain, and as capacity constraints prevent existing businesses from scaling – or new ventures from successfully launching at all – innovative approaches for community-led financing must be explored.

Existing crowdfunding platforms offer little guidance on how to successfully raise funds, and lack a focus on community building, especially within any particular location.

With your help to raise these funds, our partnered effort will…

    1. 1.  Equip existing and future members of the DC Cooperative Stakeholders Group with the added capability to run their own crowdfunding campaigns directly through the DCStakeholders.Coop website.
    2. 2.  Help upgrade the group’s web server hosting to improve slowing load times and user experience as more people continue visiting or joining the website.
    3. 3.  In addition, we pledge to use part of the funds donated, to offset the overhead cost of the first 3 co-ops that use the platform for their crowdfunding campaigns, providing direct technical assistance for all online maintenance and digital marketing needs from local cooperative community member talent.

This new core co-op crowdfunding module will be implemented as a local and non-extractive full fundraising alternative to platforms such as Patreon, Kickstarter, or GoFundMe.

Unlike these current options that make profits from users, an optional donation can be added to directly support further development of the cooperative network infrastructure.

We need cooperative support to keep the momentum going in 2020!

By donating to this campaign, you will be supporting the development of:

  • A non-extractive, cooperative-centric crowdfunding platform that encourages collaboration between local groups and individuals.
  • A shared space for finding team members, resources, sponsors, and donors for any crowdfunding campaign a co-op or project group wishes to run.
  • An access point for stakeholders to make direct donations to local co-op or mission-aligned project initiatives of their choice.
  • A template for other platform builders in the network to adopt for their own cooperative fundraising needs.

* Fiscal hosting by CrowdWork.Coop with no added fees - contributions directly fund the DC Cooperative Stakeholders Group.
